Mrs. Vera (Dey) Lindsey, age 99, of Bell, FL, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2024 at the Tri-County Nursing Home. She was born on September 16, 1924, in Judson, to Samuel and Luda (Barco) Dey. Mrs. Vera was a lifelong resident of the Tri-County area and a 1942 graduate of Bronson High School. That same year, she married the love of her life, Robert Lester Lindsey. The two enjoyed 33 years of marriage until he passed in 1975. Work was an important part of Mrs. Vera’s life. She worked for the Gilchrist County School Board and was the first female school bus driver. She later became the first female school board member and served two terms. She also enjoyed a long career as a bookkeeper with Smith Sales and Services. She was their bookkeeper for 41 years before she finally retired at the age of 93. Mrs. Vera worshipped at Midway Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lester Lindsey; both parents; her son, Larry Michael Lindsey, Sr; great grandson, John Gideon Suggs; and her siblings, Alvin, Pearl, Ethel, Ortha Mae, Randolph, Clyde, and Myrtle.
Mrs. Vera is survived by her children, Dale (Angie) Lindsey, Jeannine (Greg) Pfannschmindt, and daughter-in-law, Sabra Lindsey all of Bell; her grandchildren, Amber (Josh Cole) Lindsey, Ashley (Tyrod) Adams, Larissa Lindsey-Manders, Jared (Mary) Suggs, Micheal Lindsey, Jr, KW (Jordan) Lindsey, Jr, Jamie McKenzie, and Brittany Lee; great-grandchildren, Lowgan, Dalyce (Lex), Sarah, Braeden, Joshua, Jackson, Carsen, Lillianne, Molly, Austin, Krysiah, and Avery Jane; numerous extended family also survive.
To honor Mrs. Vera’s life, there will be a graveside visitation at Midway Church of Christ Cemetery on Thursday, January 11th beginning at 10:30 am followed by a graveside funeral at 11:00am.
