Roy Murray Wilson Sr, age 98, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 20. Roy was born April 11, 1926 to J.B. And Geraldine Wilson in Jacksonville, FL. His family moved to Gilchrist County when he was very young and attended Trenton School and graduated from Dixie County High. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and proudly served our country during World War II. After leaving the Navy, he met the love of his life, Ruby Lee Rodgers. They married June 19, 1948 and raised three children in Gilchrist County. Roy was a farmer and ran a seed dryer and warehouse with his Dad and brothers. Later they started aa construction company and he became a licensed electrician. They also owned a grocery store and mobile home company before he retired. Roy served our county on the Gilchrist County School Board for 16 years. He was also director and president of Gilchrist County Farm Bureau as well as a State Director for many years.
He was a man of deep Christian faith and a member of Priscilla Baptist Church since 1948. He served his Lord and church in many capacities including Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Director and Church Treasurer. He was also a leader in the construction of the new church building. Roy was strong in his faith and beliefs and would stand firm on what he believed was right.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents, J.B. And Geraldine Wilson, loving wife of 66 years Ruby Lee, grandson David Shane Rodgers, brothers Robert Wilson, Harry Wilson, Joe Wilson and sisters Mable Morgan and Jeanette Wilson.
He is survived by his brother, Milam Wilson of Trenton FL; his daughters Alice (David) Rodgers of Roanoke TX, Laura (Chuck) Fullen of Trenton FL and son Murray (Stephanie) Wilson of Chiefland FL; five grandchildren, Gene (Ann) Rodgers of Boyd TX; Wesley Wilson of Trenton FL, Heather (Ryan Davis) Fullen of Gainesville FL, Tyler (Aubrey) Wilson of Live Oak FL, Kayla (Tim) Myers of Chiefland FL, nine great-grandchildren Whitney (Zak) Ganter, Arlington TX; Molly (John) Ruth of Trophy Club TX; Wilson Rodgers of Sherman TX; Michaelah Rodgers of Boyd TX, Brittleigh Cherry of Chiefland FL, Kase Wilson of Live Oak FL, Alley Wilson of Trenton FL, Christina Wilson of Chiefland FL, and Charles Wilson of Trenton FL; three great-great grandchildren Alina Ramsey, Colt Ramsey and Olive Ganter.
Funeral services will be held at Priscilla Baptist Church of Bell, FL on Saturday August 24th. The family will welcome friends for a visitation at 4:00PM with services following at 5:00PM.
