Ronald “Ron” Dale Whistler, 72, of Chiefland, FL, passed peacefully at home on July 23, 2024. Ron was born in Independence, KS, on December 4, 1951, the eldest child of Marvin “Pete” and Erma “Jean” (Glass) Whistler. Ron attended Elk City schools and was a graduate of the class of 1969.
Ron was a stone mason for many years and was a good salesman. Outside of work, he loved gardening, painting with his mom, writing and singing songs, and traveling. Above all, he loved spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. Despite his failing health over the last four years, Ron remained strong in his faith. He reminded the family to “pray one for another” and would frequently offer to have a word of prayer for whatever situation might be.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Ron is survived by his wife, Sandra “Sandy” Whistler, whom he married in 2013; his children, Julie (Kevin) Osburn from Independence, KS., Aaron (Holly) Whistler from Whitehouse, TX., Lori (Kaleo) Hanamaikai from Orem, UT; grandchildren, Andrew (Elise) Whistler, Luke Whistler, Abigail and Ava Osburn. In 2013, Ron was blessed with bonus children, whom he loved as his own; Jason (BJ) Whistler from Chiefland, Fl., Darla Whistler (Scott) Tummond from Gainesville, Fl., and Rachel (John) Stuckey from Trenton, Fl.; grandchildren, Connor (Ansleigh), Kyle, Michael, Jaxon, and Luke. He is also survived by his mother, Jean Whistler and brother, Donald Whistler both from Independence, KS., and sister, Gail (Bob) Keller from Coffeyville, KS; numerous extended family also survive.
Ron’s wishes were to be laid to rest back home in Kansas. There will be a celebration of life on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at 2:00 pm at the First Baptist Church in Independence, KS.
