Mr. Raymond Dunagan Hutchinson, age 88, of Trenton, FL, passed away on March 3, 2022, at North Florida Regional Hospital in Gainesville. He was born on December 5, 1933, to Wilmer Hutchinson and Lillie Mae Dunagan. After losing his father as a child, his mother married, Monroe Asbell and he did a great raising Ray. He grew up in Chiefland and was a graduate of Chiefland High School. After graduating, Ray enlisted in the United States Army where he served 4 years. Returning home, he went to work for the Forestry Department and after 16 years, he retired to pursue a career in politics. Ray served as a Gilcrhist County School Board member for 16 years. While on the school board, Ray opened Riverland Insurance which owned and operated it for many years before selling to what now is, Nature Coast Insurance. Ray enjoyed traveling and he visited all 50 states. His favorite place to go was Standing Indian campground in North Carolina where he hosted several years. He was a faithful member of Bethel Baptist Church where he served in several capacities including song leader and deacon. Ray is preceded in death by his wife, Nellie (Thomas) Hutchinson; both parents and his other father, Monroe Asbell; and a brother, Carver.
Ray is survived by his children, Stanley (Kathy) Hutchinson, Connie (Carl) Loy, and Sandy (Mike) Sauls all of Trenton; his grandchildren, Michael, Jennifer (Steven), Shanda (Cody), Carl (Angela), Cody (Cheyenne), Ashley, Casey, Jo (Trevor), Kaitlynn (Christian), Tyler (Hanna), and Shelby (Clint); his 17 great-grandchildren; sisters, Doris Gore and Margie Collins both of Trenton; a host of extended family also survive.
A graveside service to honor Ray’s life will be held on Wednesday, March 9, at 11:00 am at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends for a visitation on Tuesday, March 8, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Watson-Milton Funeral Home, Trenton, FL. 352-463-8888. www.WatsonMilton.com
