Mathew Lee Waddell, a beloved husband, father, son, brother, and friend, passed away on February 2, 2025, in Gainesville, Florida, at the age of 39. Born on December 5, 1985, in Tampa, Florida, Mathew brought extraordinary light and laughter into the lives of everyone who knew him. He was known for his infectious sense of humor and his ability to find joy in the simplest of moments.
Mathew was a true family man, taking immense pride in his daughter, Jillian Waddell, who was the center of his universe. Their bond was unbreakable, and Mathew cherished every opportunity to create memories with her.
Mathew had a distinct personal style, often seen donning his favorite cowboy hat, a symbol of his fun-loving spirit. Mathew was passionate about his hobbies, from fishing on lazy afternoons to playing guitar.
He is survived by his wife Tabatha Waddell; his daughter Jillian Waddell; his parents, Guy and Denise Waddell, and his siblings—sisters Melissa Hobbs, Elizabeth Ramey, and brother Steven Waddell; A proud uncle, Mathew deeply cared for his nephews, Noah, Caleb, Evan Hobbs and Benny and Brandon Ramey, as well as his nieces, Lily Hobbs and Tiffany (Zack) Waddell. Mathew also embraced his role as a great-uncle to Linkin and Hope.
Mathew is preceded in death by his brother-in-law and best "bud", Jacob Hobbs, along with his cherished grandparents, JD and Linda Jones, and Eugene and Barbara Waddell.
A funeral service to honor Mathew's life will be held on Monday, February 10th at 12:00 PM at Redemption Church in Bell, Florida. The family will receive friends for a visitation one hour prior to the service beginning at 11:00 AM. Mathew will then be laid to rest at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery in Trenton, Florida.
