Mrs. Laura (Bass) Johns, age 91, of Gainesville, FL, passed away on July 28 2024. She was born on September 3, 1932, in Sulfur Springs, FL. She grew up in Trenton, FL, and met her future husband, Wesley Johns, at a barn raising dance. The two married in 1950 and enjoyed 20 years of marriage before his passing in 1970. During those years, Mrs. Laura was a homemaker and raised her family. After his passing, she went to work for Alachua General Hospital the later worked for the school system. She always had a heart for children and would often serve in the church nursery. The neighborhood children would call her “Mama”. Mrs. Laura enjoyed cooking, baking, and was a talented seamstress. She was a strong, independent woman who always provided for her family. She was a woman of faith and carried that faith to the end. She was an incredible mother and role model and will be deeply missed. She was preceded in death by her husband and her grandson, Wesley.
Mrs. Laura is survived by her children, Mary Ann (Mike) Blanton of Interlachen, Henry (Pam) Johns of St. Augustine, Janie (Frank) Bianchi of Gainesville, and Ted (Sandy) Tetstone of Gainesville; her grandchildren, Lindy, Polly, Hailey, Paige, LaShaun, and NaTasha; and one great-grandson, Noah; and her sister, Lorraine; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.
A graveside service to honor Mrs. Laura will be held on Wednesday, July 31, at 11:00 am, at Jennings Lake Cemetery in Bell, FL. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Watson-Milton Funeral Home, Trenton. 352-463-8888. www.WatsonMilton.com
