Kathryn Houser

Kathryn Doris Houser, 88, of Trenton, Florida, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2024, while under the loving care of Haven Hospice in Chiefland, Florida.

Born in Knoxville, Tennessee to Charles and Hester Lynch, Kathryn and her growing family moved to Newberry, Florida in 1967. Soon after settling in Florida, Kathryn began a 35-year career in food service working for Alachua County Schoolboard and retired as the Director of Food Service for Gilchrist County Schoolboard. After retirement, Kathryn dedicated herself for the next 10 years to compassionate and loving caregiving for elderly patients. 

Kathryn’s greatest joy and love was spending time with her family. Whether a holiday, a Sunday dinner or just a quick visit, Granny’s house was always filled with love, joy, laughter and “Granny Beans and Cornbread” so wonderful they had no equal. Often, a plate of beans and a talk with Granny cured everything.

Kathryn was a lifelong Christian who compassionately believed there is good in everyone no matter who you are. This was exemplified in her compassionate and loving nature to help anyone in need. Kathryn was loved by all who knew her and was affectionately called “Sweet Granny Houser” by many. 

Kathryn is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Hester Lynch, husband of 53 years, David, a son, Terry Lynn and a daughter, Susan Darlene and 11 siblings.

Kathryn is survived by her son, David, (Donna Kaye), Trenton, a daughter, Charlotte Johnson, (Tony), Newberry, a daughter, Kathy Layfield, (Joel), Trenton, a son, Bobby, Newberry, a daughter, Alice Colson, (Bobby), Newberry, a son, Charles, (Valerie), Trenton, 13 grandchildren and 34 Great Grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life to honor Kathryn will be held Monday, August 12, 2024 from 6:00 P.M to 8:00 P.M at Watson-Milton Funeral Home, Trenton. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Watson-Milton Funeral Home. www.WatsonMilton.com (352)463-8888
