John Mitchell Rowland, Jr., 81 widow of Filomena Pagdilao Rowland died Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville, Florida.
Born February 6, 1937, in Dodge County, Georgia, he was the son of the late John Mitchell Rowland, Sr. and the late Tiny Brown Rowland. He was of the Protestant faith.
He proudly served in the United States Air Force for 28 years and 2 months. While in the service, he received numerous medals, awards, ribbons and citations including the Bronze Star Medal and the Meritorious Service Medal. He retired in 1982 as a SMSGT. He continued his service to the US government as a contractor from the Middle East to the South Pacific as a radio and satellite engineer.
He is survived by 2 sons John Mitchell Rowland, III (Holly) of Mechanicsville, Virginia, John Michael Rowland (Apryl) of Boonsboro, Maryland; 3 daughters Tammy Stone (Brian) of Ft. Walton Beach, Florida, Sue Lynn Reynolds (Jody) of Pinewood, South Carolina, Wendy Rowland Howard (Cody) of Palmer, Alaska; 10 grandchildren, Kyle Rowland, Kera Rowland, Jordan Stone, Kasey Stone, Eryn Rowland, Duncan Rowland, Parker Reynolds, Peyton Reynolds, Cooper Reynolds, Torrence Howard; 2 great grandchildren, Hendrix Hines and Calliope Hines; and one sister, Mary Merritt of Trenton, Florida.
Along with his parents, and his wife, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Wilburn Rowland and Bunyon Rowland and 3 sisters, Gracie Lee Archbell, Mae Bell Meadows and Ola Mae Perkins.
Visitation will be held at Watson Funeral Home in Trenton, Florida, Sunday, October 21, 2018 at 2:00 pm. Interment will be at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida with full military honors on Monday, October 22, 2018 at 1:00 pm. with Reverend Thomas R. Beaverson officiating.
