Jean Ann Johnson Ledvina, 82, died Tuesday, February 13, 2024 in Alpharetta, GA. She was born on April 27, 1941 in Fairfield, IA.
Jean attended elementary, middle and high school in Fairfield. After high school graduation she went on to earn a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Physical Education from the University of Iowa then a Master’s degree in physical education and education leadership from Minnesota State University Mankato.
Before moving to Gainesville, FL she was a teacher in Minburn, IA; principal at Central Dallas Community School in Adele, IA; and principal at Merrywood Elementary School in Greenwood, SC. In 1995 she and her husband moved to Gainesville and she became the principal of Trenton Elementary School in Trenton, FL. She retired in 2010 but continued to teach as an adjunct professor at St. Leo University for several years. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Gainesville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Isabelle Johnson, her husband of 52 years Timothy Lee Ledvina and daughter Kelley Jean Ledvina. She is survived by her brother, Howard Johnson (Lois) of Altoona, IA; son James Ledvina (Stacey) of Gainesville, FL; daughter Lori Ledvina Courtney (Tom) of Alpharetta, GA; grandchildren Tyler Ledvina, Peyton Nimmons, Kelsey Nimmons, Bailey Ledvina, Jackson Courtney and Colin Courtney; great grandchild Adore Athena Febus; and many nieces and nephews.
Jean was known for her love for family, her “Open Door” policy at home where everyone was welcome, her kind and accepting nature, her passion for public education, chocolate and dunking sugar cookies (with the icing on top) in black coffee for breakfast. She enjoyed golfing with family, family dinners, and attending grandchildren’s activities.
A very casual visitation will be held at Watson-Milton Funeral Home in Trenton, Saturday, February 24, 2024 from 12 to 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to the Gilchrist County School District, supplies to a school in need, or your time at a school, charity or church of your choice.
