Imogene McLeod, a beloved figure in her community and a dedicated professional, passed away peacefully on November 17, 2024, in Bell, Florida. Born on October 3, 1942, she grew up on the family farm in Bell and graduated from Bell High School in 1960. Imogene lived a remarkable life that spanned more than eight decades, marked her kindness, generosity, and an unwavering commitment to her family and her career.
For over 30 years, Imogene served as a personnel director for the Department of Corrections. Her expertise in hiring was instrumental in shaping the workforce in this area, and her contributions did not go unnoticed. She was respected by her colleagues and cherished by those whom she mentored. Her career was not just a job to her; it was a testament to her dedication and passion for making a difference in the lives of others.
Imogene was a woman of interests and passions outside of her professional life. She loved traveling and spending time with family. An avid fan of the Florida Gators, she often found joy in cheering for her favorite team. She had an infectious spirit that warmed the hearts of those around her, drawing people in with her gentle personality. She was also a beloved member of the Bell Baptist Church.
Imogene is lovingly remembered by her sisters, Maxine Cummings of Bell, Gwen (Richard) Carmichael of Steinhatchee, Anne (Bill) Lawson of Jacksonville, Mevalee Philman and Nell (Rusty) Yelvington all of Bell, her brothers, Lavon (Sylvia) Philman of San Antonio and Billy (Renee) Philman of Bell, and sister-in-law, Karen Philman also of Bell. She also leaves behind her stepchildren, Cornelia Edminster, Mark McLeod, and Scott McLeod as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne McLeod; her parents, Johnnie and Synthie (Sanchez) Philman; and her siblings, Pauline Sauls, Hayward Philman, Edward Philman, and Tommy Philman. These connections were a significant part of her life’s fabric, and their memories will be kept alive through the stories shared among her family.
A visitation will be held in her honor on November 21, 2024, starting at 10:00 AM, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 AM, both taking place at Watson Milton Funeral Home, Trenton, Florida.
