Glenn Austin Roush, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on April 5, 2025, at his home in Trenton, Florida, surrounded by his loving family. Born on July 8, 1938, in Highland County, Ohio, Glenn's journey through life was guided by his deep commitment to family, faith, and service to others.
Growing up on a farm, Glenn learned the values of hard work and dedication from a young age. After graduating high school, he continued working in various farming jobs before moving to Virginia in 1964. It was there that he began his long and fulfilling career with C&P Telephone Company, which later became known as Bell Atlantic and then Verizon. He retired in 1994, cherishing the opportunity to become a stay-at-home grandpa for his first grandchild.
As a child he was called "Aukie" by his sister, which would continue to be the nickname that carried on until he embraced the role of "Pa" to his grandchildren and all who knew him. His grandchildren were truly his pride and joy, and he took every chance to share their accomplishments and stories with anyone who would listen.
In Virginia, Glenn primarily lived in Manassas, where he was an active member of the Church of Christ. His dedication extended beyond attendance; he served as a Deacon and contributed his time to youth groups, benevolence efforts, the maintenance of church properties and as a bus driver for the Joy Bus ministry. He also served on the board of directors for Camp WaMa Va, spending many summers and weekends caring for the campgrounds. His community spirit shone further when he volunteered as a driver for Meals on Wheels until health concerns began to limit his activities.
In 2003, Glenn relocated to the picturesque Shenandoah Valley, continuing his service within the church community, this time as treasurer. The love he held for his faith remained a guiding light throughout his life. In 2023, seeking to be closer to family, he moved to Trenton, Florida. There, he spent precious time with his daughters and took delight in learning to shell pecans, all while being an active and cherished member of the Trenton Church of Christ.
Glenn is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Ruby C. Roush; his daughter, Sandi Roush of Trenton, Florida; his son, Tim (Polly) Roush of Redmond, Washington; and his daughter, Kris Woodfin (Mike) of Trenton, Florida. His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Morgan (Skyler) Anderson of Kirkland, Washington; Bailey Woodfin of Trenton, Florida; Austin (Sabrina) Woodfin of Stockport, Ohio; and Luke Woodfin of Trenton, Florida. He also celebrated the arrival of his great-grandchild, Hayden James Anderson. Additionally, he is survived by his sister, Ruth Roush Harte of Shreveport, Louisiana, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Glenn was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Pratt Roush; his mother, Sarah Elizabeth Austin Roush Kirkhart; and his brother, Everett E Roush.
Known for his infectious spirit and playful nature, Glenn was a well-loved prankster who would give you the shirt off his back (literally). He possessed a knack for fixing anything and had a deep appreciation for the outdoors. Although he wasn't fond of water or swimming, he found joy in sitting on the beach, searching for dolphins. His passion for all things John Deere was unmistakable and part of what made him unique.
As we mourn the loss of Glenn Austin Roush, we celebrate a life well-lived, filled with love, laughter, and an unwavering commitment to his family, faith, and community. His memory will forever remain in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Jude's. Watson-Milton Funeral home in Trenton is honored to serve the family of Mr. Glenn Roush. www.watsonmilton.com 352-463-8888
