Gary Halter

Gary Braxton Halter, a beloved father and cherished family member, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2025 at the ET York Hospice Care Center in Gainesville, Florida. He was born on January 31, 1946, in Yuma Tennessee to Ruel Halter and Fairy Wood Halter. He grew up in Memphis, Tennessee before moving to Florida in 1960, where he would spend many happy years. He was very proficient in his job as a parts manager for several auto dealerships throughout the area—following in his father’s footsteps.

Gary’s life was filled with fond memories, particularly those spent on the Suwannee River, where he cherished the time he spent on his boat with his family. His love for adventure was matched only by his passion for sports and music. Gary was an avid fan of Elvis Presley, the St. Louis Cardinals and the Florida Gators. He was also a dedicated NASCAR fan, attending as many races as he could throughout his life.

He is survived by his daughter, Alisha (Phillip) Kage, his son Joey (Jennifer) Halter, his grandchildren in whom he took great joy in, Joey and Reese Halter and Lilah and Rowan Kage, his brother, David (Cherry) Halter, his sister, Patricia Williams of Huntingdon, Tennessee, his nephew, Aaron Halter and his niece, Faith(Wayne)Canavan of Dunmore, Pennsylvania.

Gary was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joanne Perkins Halter, his mother, Fairy Halter Wilkerson, his father, Ruel Halter, his brother, Ricky Halter and his stepfather, Cleve Wilkerson. Each of these individuals played a significant role in shaping his life and their memories will forever be a part of his legacy.

As we remember Gary, we celebrate a man of loyalty and whose passions were as vibrant as his spirit. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who knew him.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests for donations to be made to The American Cancer Society or Haven Hospice.

A memorial service to remember Gary will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at 1:00 at Watson-Milton Funeral Home, Trenton. Family will receive friends for a visitation just before the service beginning at 12:00. The family will meet at the home of David and Cherry after the service for lunch.
