Frances Martin

Frances Odena Martin, beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, and a friend to so many passed away on July 16, 2024 at Ayers Health and Rehabilitation Center in Trenton, Florida. She was born on September 17, 1920, to Burl and Lodie Fellows of Ashford, Alabama. She was one of her daddy's "seven wonders of the world". On July 28, 1940, she married Orlando Samuel "O.S." Martin. They made their home in Bell, Florida. Frances obeyed the gospel over 70 years ago. She was a member of Bethel church of Christ. She was last able to attend services on Easter Sunday where she engaged in the singing of one of her songs. Frances was truly a helpmeet to her husband. They worked together raising various crops and animals, as well as caring for the family garden and taking care of the household needs. She was not known for her fame and fortune, but by her gentleness and kindness shown to others by her examples. Her home was always open, and her southern cooking was enjoyed by many. 

She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, her parents and five of her sisters: Josie Henderson, Ruby Knight, Nettie Evans, Burl Coleman and Estella Kirby. 

She is survived by her sister, Kate Parker; her children Hugh (Rita) Martin and Cherry (David)Halter; her grandchildren Darise (Paul) McLoughlin, Aaron Halter, Rachelle (Kelly) Philman, Faith (Wayne) Canavan, Jennifer (Brian) McConnell, Joshua Moore and Jesse (Alicia) Moore; her great- grandchildren Evan and Connor McLoughlin, Tristan and Brayden Canavan, Kason Philman, Lindsey and Brandon McConnell, David and Tyler Moore, Hunter, Leslie and Logan Moore.

A funeral to honor Ms. Frances' life will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at 12:00 pm at Watson-Milton Funeral Home, Trenton. The family will receive friends for a visitation beginning at 11:00 am at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest at Bethel Church of Christ Cemetery.
