Emily Sessions, a loving mother, grandmother, passed away peacefully on August 19 2024, in Chiefland, Florida. Born Emily Barnett to Thonis and Lillie (White) Barnett on December 22, 1940, in O'Brien, Florida, she dedicated her life to both her family and her career. Emily devoted 25 years of her professional life to the Gilchrist County Health Department, where she made a lasting impact on those she served. Her commitment to her work was matched only by her devotion to her family, as she was known for her selflessness and generosity. Emily loved having company over, always finding joy in the laughter and stories shared with friends and family. Her faith was a significant part of her life, as she had been a member of Priscilla Baptist Church since the age of 15. She had a deep love for fishing and hunting, which allowed her to embrace and create lasting memories with her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Tom Mathis (Jeanne) of Bell, Virginia (Chris) Thompson of Hillard, and Roger Mathis (Angie) of Bell, along with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren who carry on her legacy of love and kindness.
Emily was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Mathis Sr. and her husband Lavaughn Sessions.
A funeral service for Emily will be held on Monday, August 26th at Priscilla Baptist Church in Bell, at 11:00 A.M. The family welcomes friends for a visitation also at the church starting at 10:00 A.M.
