Brooke Kacie Layne Kohl, born on February 28, 2001, in Gainesville, Florida, danced her way through life with a spirit that could illuminate the darkest days. She passed from this world on September 16, 2024, at the North Florida Regional Hospital, leaving behind a legacy of joy, laughter, and unconditional love that will echo in the hearts of her family and friends forever.
Brooke was a delightful blend of smart and sassy, possessing an infectious laugh that brought comfort and warmth to those around her. Her love for water knew no bounds; whether it was taking a leisurely bath at home or splashing in the river, she found immense joy in the simplicity and beauty of the water. Riding alongside her daddy in his semi was a cherished memory, a symbol of their bond that exemplified the adventures and the open roads she so loved to explore. For the last 23 years, she was her mama's angel baby, now taking the role of guardian angel. She also had a special relationship with her sister, Brittanie, who affectionately called her, her little chicken nugget. The two were best friends!
Brooke graduated from the Sidney Lanier Center in Gainesville, a testament to her determination and resilience. Her journey was not without challenges, as she bravely faced her battle with Angelman Syndrome and Autism. Yet through it all, she remained a pillar of strength, teaching everyone around her the true meaning of courage and the power of love.
She is survived by her loving family, including her devoted parents, Brian and Tara Kohl of High Springs; her siblings, Timothy Kohl of High Springs and Brittanie Kohl (Mason Richardson) of Trenton; her Nana and Papa, Leslie Richard and Monte Doyle of Eagle River, AK; and her uncle, Flint Wipke, of Gainesville.
Brooke is greeted in the embrace of eternity by her beloved sister, Jenna Kohl, and her grandfather, Bruce Wipke, both of whom she surely missed deeply. Together, they now watch over the family she loved so dearly.
A Celebration of Brooke's Life will be held on October 5, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Watson Milton Funeral Home in Trenton, Florida. If you are planning on celebrating Brooke's life with the family, we ask that you wear something blue to represent Autism and her favorite color. Brooke's journey may have ended far too soon, but her laughter, her love for water, and the indomitable spirit she embodied will forever ripple through the hearts of those who knew and adored her.
Brooke's family welcomes flowers for Brooke's service, but would like everyone to know there is a foundation, in Brooke's honor, being established. In lieu of flowers, here is the link where you can donate directly. https://support.angelman.org/fundraiser/5809966
