Amy Scott Downing

April 29, 1969 — March 8, 2025

Bell

Amy Scott Downing passed away peacefully on March 8, 2025, at Haven Hospice in Chiefland, Fl surrounded by her family and friends. She was born on April 29, 1969. Amy’s loved ones are deeply saddened by her passing but are at peace knowing she is no longer in pain.

Amy is survived and will be missed by her loving children McKinnley and Sawyer Downing, her mother, Jean Akins Scott and stepmother, Joanne Scott. Her memory will be cherished by her two brothers, Eddy and Stacy Scott and her sisters-in-law, Cynthia and Rhonda Scott. Her heart was filled with pride for her nieces and nephews: Amber, Nicole, Johnny, and Krista, and her great nieces, Emma and Addison. They will always feel the love they received from their Meme. She also treasured her “forever” first-grader, Sara Gould. Amy will be forever remembered and loved “the most” by her best friend and cousin, Sharon Langford. Amy was blessed that a precious part of her life was brightened with days spent with Shelby and Crosslyn Crawford. Wonderful memories will be treasured by a host of cousins and other beloved family and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Lavane Scott, her grandmother, Kate Akins, her Uncle Stanley and Aunt Ruth Akins, and cousin, Russell Akins.

Amy was born in Gainesville, FL and grew up in Trenton, FL and she also lived with her grandmother, Mema (Kate Akins), in Bell, FL. Graduating from Trenton High School in Gilchrist County, she continued her education at Delta State University and University of Florida where she eventually obtained her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education.

Some of her greatest joy came from her two precious children, McKinnley (Sugar Britches) and Sawyer (Lil Man). They created many memories with their mom, and she shared with them her unwavering faith, unconditional love, and life lessons. Amy was a teacher for over 25 years and spent most of that time instructing at Bell Elementary School. The children in her classes were her “school babies”. She had a passion for teaching and guiding others.

Amy was an amazingly creative individual. She loved crafting and making things with her hands. One of her later projects was an online video series entitled “Created For a Purpose,” where she taught others how to craft as she gave honor and glory to God for all things including her journey with cancer. She was an avid photographer and loved capturing everlasting memories of her family, friends, community and clients. She never met a stranger, and even on her hardest days fighting breast cancer, she had the most positive energy and always strived to help others.

There are no words that can express how grateful and blessed we are to extended family, friends, and the entire community for supporting Amy and her family dealing with this tragic loss. Her legacy will carry on forever reminding us to live a life of meaningful acts of love and service.
