Mrs. Alene Worth Philman, age 99, of Bell, Florida, passed away peacefully on June 17, 2022, at her home surrounded by her family. Mrs. Alene was born on November 18, 1922, in Wachula, FL, to Lewis Henry Worth and Audrey (Walker) Worth. She grew up in Bell and attended Bell High School until one month before graduation. That’s when she and the love of her life, Amos Philman, left school and ran off to get married. Years later, she would return to finish school and graduated alongside her daughter, Sherlene. The Philman family moved around often with work, but Mrs. Alene was proud of the fact that no matter where they moved, she and the family were in church. In 1943, Mr. Amos and Mrs. Alene were both baptized at Rock Bluff Springs. Being involved in a church was very important to her. She loved leading songs, singing, playing the piano, and traveling around listening to gospel sings. She was a member of Mt. Nebo Baptist Church.
After almost 73 years of marriage, Mrs. Alene lost her husband, Amos Philman; she is also preceded in death by her daughter, Dovita; her parents; and her siblings, Roland, Doyle, Lewis, and Eugene Worth, and Virgie Philman.
Mrs. Alene is survived by her children, Sherlene Bostick, Amos H. Philman, Emory J. (Pat) Philman, and Eldon E. (Nancy) Philman all of Bell; a sister, Florence Strickland of Gainesville; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; numerous extended family also survive.
